DeKalb 2023 Scholarships awarded

Tahir Chandler is a 2023 graduate from South Cobb High School in Austell, GA. Tahir enters his Freshman year pursuing a degree in Nursing. He aspires a career as a Registered Nurse.  Tahir is the recipient of the Ruby Dean Hall Crews Scholarship.

 

Thornton Fears III is a 2023 graduate from Heritage High School in Conyers, GA. Thornton is the recipient of the High School Senior Scholarship.

 

Mo’Lana Pike is a 2023 graduate from Creekside High School in Fairburn, GA. Mo’Lana enters her Freshman year pursuing a degree in Education.  She aspires a career as a Physics Teacher.  Mo’Lana is the recipient of the High School Senior Scholarship.

Whitney T. McNair is a 2019 graduate from Stephenson High School in Stone Mountain, Georgia. Whitney enters her Freshmen year pursuing a degree in Biology. She aspires to be an Orthodontist. She is one of the  recipients of the High School Senior Scholarship this year.

Virgil W. Knox, Jr. is a 2019 graduate from Woodland High School in Stockbridge, Georgia. Virgil enters his Freshmen year pursuing a degree in Nursing. He aspires to be an Orthopedic  Nurse. He is one of the  recipients of the High School Senior Scholarship this year.

Zachary F. Atkins is a 2019 graduate from Columbia High School in Decatur, Georgia. Zachary enters his Freshmen year pursuing a degree in Health and Fitness. He aspires to be an  Exercise Physiologist. He is one of the  recipients of the High School Senior Scholarship this year.

Angel Theresa Davis is a 2018 graduate from Arabia Mountain High School in Lithonia, Georgia. Angel enters her Freshmen year pursuing a degree in Early Childhood Education. She is a recipient of the High School Senior Scholarship this year.

Demetrice Lamar Jones, Jr. is a 2018 graduate from Creekside High School in Fairburn, Georgia. He enters his Freshmen year pursuing a career as a Dental Hygenist. Demetrice is a recipient of the High School Senior Scholarship and Member Contributions.

Morgan B. Echols is a 2018 graduate from Newton High School in Covington, Georgia. Morgan enters her Freshmen year pursuing a degree in Biology toward a career in pediatric anesthesiologist. She is a recipient of the High School Senior Scholarship this year.

Devin I Freeman is a 2017 graduate from Hiram High School in Hiram, Georgia. He enters his Freshmen year pursuing a degree in Forensic Science. Devin is a recipient of the High School Senior Scholarship this year.

Jerrica C. Joseph is a 2015 graduate from Jonesboro High School in Jonesboro GA. She enters her Freshmen year pursuing a degree in Biology. Jerrica is the recipient of both the High School Senior Scholarship and the Ruby Dean Hall Crews Scholarship this year.

Nigel Whitted, Freshman Scholarship recipient from Conyers, GA graduated from Rockdale County High School. Nigel attended our ACT Workshop hosted by the Chapter in June 2015.

Dontra Martin is a transfer student from Tucker, Georgia majoring in Criminal Justice. He is currently maintaining a 2.9 GPA.

A'yanna Kelley 2014 Winner 

A ’yanna Kelley is a 2014 graduate from Arabia Mountain High School in Lithonia, GA. Her career objective is to become a psychiatric therapist incorporating her love for music in her profession. A’yanna maintained her grade point average while participating in an array of extracurricular and community service activities. This young lady has some very astute ideas concerning solutions for preparing the next generation for college and preparing to compete in a global market. We are proud to lend a hand in her desire for higher education as she enters into her freshmen year at Albany State University.
 

Michael A. Roper 2013 Winner

Michael Alexander Roper was born and raised in Stone Mountain, GA.  He is a 2011 graduate of Druid Hills High School. He began playing drum set at his Uncle’s church when he was five years old.  He played the clarinet in sixth grade, but maintained a passion for percussion instruments. He progressed so well as a percussionist, he was named drum major his senior year in high school. His passion for music led him to Albany State University where he is a junior Music Education major with an overall 3.2 GPA. His honors at ASU include being voted “Mr. Band”.  He serves as one of the marching band’s music arrangers.  Michael is a member of Kappa Kappa Psi Honorary Band Fraternity Inc. Congratulations, Michael!


Carlen Franklin 2012 Winner

 

Carlen Danielle Franklin is our 2012 ASU DeKalb Alumni Chapter scholarship winner. Carlen has lived in Georgia since she was very young and is a sophomore Criminal Justice major at ASU. She is a graduate of DeKalb School of the Arts where she was an excellent student and an active volunteer. Carlen has continued her volunteer spirit at ASU as she volunteers at a daycare and works as a member of the ASU Student Government Association internal committee. Carlen is balancing her activities with her studies and currently sports a 3.0 GPA.

Shaqeira Wilson 2012 Ruby Crews Winner


Shaqeira Wilson is currently a sophomore at Albany State University. She is a Spanish major seeking to pursue her education to become a middle grades Spanish teacher and interpreter. She has always been an active member in the University and the community. Shaqeira is a part of Student Activities and Advisory Board, the Spanish Club, and Sigma Alpha Pi National Honor Society. She maintains a 3.2 GPA while being involved at ASU. Shaqeira is a volunteer at heart and participates in as many community service projects as possible. In addition, she received an award for participation in Albany State University’s International Education Week.


Candice Price 2011 Winner

Candice Nicole Price is a Junior Social Work major at ASU with a 3.5 GPA. She is president of the National Society of  Leadership and Success organization and also a member of the Golden Key Honor Society, Student Social Work Association and the ASU Gospel Choir.  Candice is a volunteer at heart and works with Feed the Hungry, Mission Change, A Day of Caring, and Girl’s Inc. of Albany. When she returns home Candice volunteers at Towers High School and talk to classes about “Finding Your Future” and she helps out with the marching band. Currently Candice is waiting to be inducted into Phi Alpha Honor Society for Social Work and this summer she plans to Study abroad in Trinidad and Tobago; after which she will be an official Global Ambassador.
