ASU DeKalb kicks off College Fair season at Redan High School.

Published on 9/30/2011

ASU DeKalb County Alumni kicked off College Fair season with a visit to Redan High School. “Redan never disappoints!” states Tamara Nelson as she reminisced about her prior year experience at Redan High. Like last year, several students gave up their Friday evening to get information about their educational pursuits, and they did not want to leave!  The lights were flickered to signal it was time to go!  Jimmy Brown was pleasantly surprised by the number of students attending.  He stated this was the kind of positive news that should be covered about our students.

Over 40 students visited our table within an hour and a half timeframe. But, Jimmy and Tamara were ready for the influx of students. Robert Newton had recently traveled through the Metro area, and personally delivered new 2011 recruitment brochures, campus visitation cards, pens, bags and paraphernalia to Thomas Greene. In July of this year, Enrollment Services held Alumni Recruitment Training promising to equip the Alumni with the tools needed to properly recruit students. Along with boxes of brochures, DeKalb County Chapter now has 2 ASU rolling bags to carry loads of information.

ASU DeKalb was not just sought out by students. Mr. Michael White from Dream Big Educational Services, Inc. stopped by our table to tell us he is taking a load of kids to ASU on November 11th. Ingrid Pettigrew, PTA Chairperson at MLKing Jr, High School, invited ASU DeKalb to College and Career Night “Breaking the Spirit of Average” on November 10th.  Alumnus Linda Clark, Redan PTA member, visited to share that her daughter graduated with a degree in Education last year, and is working in a school district near Eufaula.

We are on our way to filling our bus in February 2012.  Students can scan an icon on the back of the Campus Visitation Card with a Smartphone or go to www.asurams.edu/web/prospective/visitation to get information. DeKalb’s Campus Visitation 2012 web page is active, but under construction. Our next College Fair is Southwest DeKalb High School.
