New President and Treasurer Chosen
Thomas Moves On
The Dekalb County Chapter of the Albany State University Alumni Association has made a change in leadership.
Tamara Hampton Nelson moves from the post of ASU Dekalb Treasurer, after being named the new
President of ASU Dekalb.
Meanwhile, Donald Blount,
a founding member of the 30 year old group,
steps in as the chapter Treasurer.
The changes were initiated upon the announcement, by TaKeshia Thomas, that she would be relinquishing
her post as president.
Thomas is leaving the state of Georgia for Oregon.
Thomas says, "It has been my extreme pleasure to serve as President of ASU Dekalb. We have made some terrific
strides, not only for students and the Dekalb community, but for the entire ASU National family."
Under Thomas' leadership, ASU Dekalb was awarded
Chapter of the Year-Bronze in 2010, and
Chapter of the Year-Silver in 2011.
New ASU Dekalb President Tamara Hampton Nelson says,
"It is an honor to be appointed into this position.
TaKeshia is a wonderful
leader who will be sorely missed.
She has led by example and supported her members as they worked to heighten our exposure within
our community and among dedicated ASU alumni.
We wish her and her family the best."
The Dekalb members of the ASU National Alumni Association provide scholarships to students attending Albany
State University, participate in several charitable organizations, and provide various types of support to the
auxiliary units of Albany State University.
