ASU Dekalb Chapter President TaKeshia Thomas wowed attendees at the 2011 National Alumni Conference.
In a speech during the Awards Luncheon, Thomas told the audience, "It's all about our vision as alumni, as friends of ASU, as steadfast supporters! Not an empty vision, but one that is drawn on tried and tested experience. To stop what isn't working and hold on to what works. Keeping our vision simple, yet, goal-focused. Using every move we make...as a stepping stone to reach greater heights."
President Thomas received standing ovations when she asked her chapter members and all supporters of ASU to stand.
She went on to tell those in the packed room, "We have come to the City of Warner Robins, Georgia...yes, to honor those that have gone above-and-beyond...but also to re-enforce our bond of unity, not to compete one against the other, but to know that in the end, we are one. We are here to uphold the principles that our University was built on. To construct on the positive. To mentor our students, to assist them in understanding... that if they don't help themselves now, they're going to be like fish out of water later."
Thomas' chapter went on to win the Chapter of the Year-Silver; Member Recruiter of the Year; Alumnus of the Year; and the Leadership awards.
The Conference was held in Warner Robins, Georgia, June 22-25, 2011.
Potential. Realized.
