Published on 6/26/2011

Once again the ASU Dekalb alumni Chapter had the most members in attendance at the 2011 National Planning Conference held in Warner Robins, Georgia, June 22-25.

Members heard from various speakers through workshops, forums and other programs. Among the most anticipated speakers was ASU President Dr. Everette Freeman. "We're going to have a great academic year. We've got a great story to tell", comments by Freeman during Thursday's Motivational Luncheon. Referring to Darton College's Nursing program being granted 4-year status, Freeman said, "I want to bury 'em" Before they get there." Freeman went on to say, "Our job is not to get mad, but to get even." As for ASU's Nursing program, Freeman said, " We are using money to hire new faculty now."

During an afternoon session, College of Education chief Dr. Kimberly King-Jupiter said she's constructing a "complete redesign of the Specialist program." The redesign includes strengthening relationships with community partners and development of a College of Education Newsletter. King-Jupiter also says ASU has been granted a 1-year extention to meet requirements for NCATE accreditation. She also answered questions about ongoing rumors about the department. King-jupiter said, "My job is to do my job and to do it effectively."

ASU Director of Information Technology Virginia Stewart detailed restructuring plans, including new hires, aimed at bringing the admissions turnaround process to a more favorable status.
