Dekalb Wins Big at Warner Robins Alumni Planning Conference

The Dekalb County Chapter of the Albany State University National Alumni Association is named Chapter of the Year-Silver during the 2011 ASU Alumni National Planning Conference held June 22-25 in Warner Robins, Georgia.

The Dekalb alumni were recognized for Representing ASU at Atlanta-area college fairs, recruiting superlative students, school volunteerism, contributing to Atlanta-area churches and charities, providing gift Bags for ASU athletes, cheerleaders, and band and for providing lunch during Homecoming festivities for the Marching Rams Show Band.
 
Two members of the Dekalb Alumni Chapter were also recognized for their individual contributions. Chapter Vice President Darryl Frazier was named Member Recruiter of the Year. Frazier is credited with the significant and consistent increase in chapter members. Frazier has initiated several efforts enticing members to encourage additional ASU alumni and friends to join the Dekalb Alumni Chapter. Reacting to the honor, Frazier told fellow chapter members, "Ya'll are the reason I'm receiving this award. Thank you."

Maria Boynton was named Alumnus of the Year. Boynton was recognized for her significant contributions to every aspect of alumni participation. In announcing the award recipient, National Alumni President Greg Hylick said, "I can call on this person in a pinch, and they get the job done." Boynton also received the ASU National Alumni Leadership Award. She said, "I am absolutely shocked by the honor."

Chapter member Andrea Snorton was elated to be recognized for being the alumni Luncheon speaker during the 2010 Founder's Day observance.

ASU Dekalb Alumni President TaKeshia Thomas says, "Our chapter has done extremely well in working for students and community. We feel honored to be ecognized for those efforts."

In 2010, the Dekalb County Area Alumni chapter was named ASU National Alumni Association Chapter of the Year-Bronze.
