Published on 6/11/2011

Plenty of ASU blue and gold. Plenty of grillin' by Mr. Kelley, eating, and welcoming to the fold. Coach was full of speeches, Ruby was full of smiles, Jimmy Brown was so full of everything he was overjoyed to have traveled the miles. 50+- rams and supporters participated in the gathering held Saturday at Panola Mountain State Park.

President TaKeshia Thomas thanked everyone for a wonderful year. "Wow, we have done a lot". She added, "I look forward to being awarded for all of our worthwhile labors." Vice President Darryl Frazier called the cookout, "Super, fantantastic, fabulous. There was enough food to feed a Roman legion. A super fellowship." Treasurer Thomas Greene commented, "It was magnificent." Financial Secretary Loretta Johnson said, "It was real nice." Secretary Wanda Isaac said, "It was good! I thought it was absolutely fabulous. Well attended and with good food." Barbara Butler said, "The comraderie was great., I loved our time together."

Scholarship and Recruitment Chair Tamara Nelson introduced to us ASU Dekalb scholarship winner Candice Price and her mother. Other soon-to-be Rams joined us, including Simone Johnson and Phillip Holder. They thanked ASU Dekalb for the support.

Debra Abernathy commented saying, "Today was a nice culminating activity. What a way to end the year, and to see the  fruits of our labor, the new students. The enthusiasm was warming."

LaVerne Campbell added, "The students were overwhelmed to see our support. One young lady told us that she wasn't used to seeing black people going to college. She was just happy to see people who looked like her."

Merita Brown said,"It was exciting to see and fellowship with the alumni and to meet our scholarship recipient and her mom. The old and new coming together was wonderful."

Wilbur Yancy, who gave an update on the planned trip to Indianapolis*, said of the cookout, "I think to come together for a year-end event is phenomenal. It shows the chapter had a wonderful year with the many accomplishments made and really sets the tone for the upcoming year and for the great things that are about to take place."

Other comments included:
Kevin Thomas II, "It was long, but it was great."
Neva Jones, "The event was magnificent, thrilling, and was filled with fun and excitement."
Kentavia Wimberly, "It was nice. Hot, but nice.".
