Founders Day - Davey Gibson's Dedication Room
Published on 4/1/2011
ASU Dekalb's contribution to a room honoring Mr. Davey Gibson has paid off greatly!
The room, at the National Alumni house in Albany is filled with many pieces of Gibson's memorabilia, including his Albany State Degree, a letter from President Clinton, proclamations, and much more. You should plan to visit our headquarters soon. The ASU National Alumni Complex, is located at 3523 Sylvester Road. Gibson, a native of Dawson, Ga., graduated from Albany State in 1956. He served four terms as president of the ASU National Alumni Association. Gibson's widow, Carolyn Gibson, shared stories about just how much "Davey loved his alma mater."
She also told this reporter (Boynton) that Gibson and his mother attended Albany State at the same time, but sadly his mom passed during her time at ASC. Mrs. Gibson injected humor during the dedication when she said, "How many plaques and awards do a 70 year old man need?" When the laughter ended, she went on to say, "You should give more recognitions to your younger alumni. Maybe then, they'd be motivated to do more for your university."
