Albany State University National Alumni Association’s DeKalb Area Alumni Chapter (ASUNAA-Dekalb) hosted the Scholarship and End-of-the-Year Barbecue on June 9 at Village Park in Ellenwood.
The ASU Alumni Chapter celebrated its completed projects for the 2023-2024 service year and honored scholarship recipients with a total of $11,500 awarded, according to a news release.
Each year, students accepted into Albany State University (ASU) are offered the opportunity to apply for two scholarships: The High School Scholarship and The Ruby D. Crews Scholarship. This year’s recipients are:
•1st Place – Salidin Carter of Heritage High School
•2nd Place – Brianna Davis of Tucker High School
•3rd Place – Chanel Gathers of Southwest Dekalb High School
•4th Place – Destinee Julio of Lovejoy High School
Additionally, ASU DeKalb Alumni member Reginald Ray sponsored book scholarships totaling $2,000 for the following recipients:
• Kennedy Bell
• Claritza Montellano
• Tanyah Hastings
• Lauren Jenkins
These students are a combination of returning students and new students for the fall semester, according to a news release.
