January 2013 Meeting Highlights

Published on 1/18/2013

It was yet another business-filled ASU DeKalb meeting on Saturday-January 12, 2013.

MLKingJr Parade!

The chapter is participating in the 2013 Martin Luther King Jr Parade on Monday, January 21.

It's not in Stone Mountain this year, but rather it starts at Ray of Hope Church on Highway 155 in Decatur. Please arrive no-later than 10:30am.

Following the parade, please join us at Piccadilly (South Dekalb Mall) for lunch at 2pm (U pay).
Chapter President Tamara Nelson says, "What a fun-filled way to celebrate the King Holiday and the Inauguration for those of us who cannot make it to DC?"

Battle of the Bands!

Here we go again! Honda Battle of the Bands is on January 26 at the Georgia Dome. PR Committee Chair Maria Boynton says, "This is by far the largest fan group we've ever had. We're on the lower level with hundreds of ASU fans this year."

For those that ordered tickets, if you haven't received them by Tuesday, January 22, please call 404-862-2345. Also, the Dome doors will open at 1:30pm. The show starts at 3:00pm.  The Albany State Marching Rams Show Band is playing away from the Press Box this year.  The bands, in order of appearance, are: Edward Waters, Albany State, Tennessee State, Alcorn State, Jackson State, Winston-Salem State, Bethune-Cookman, and North Carolina A&T.

Brandy is performing this year! Get your blue&gold pom-pom from us at the Dome ($2)!

GAAHBSU!
The 28th Legislative Conference of the Georgia Alumni Associations of Historically Black State Universities is January 30-31 at the Holiday Inn on Capitol Avenue in Atlanta. Go to www.asuramsnationalalumni.com for registration information. ASU Dekalb President Tamara Nelson says, "ASU is the host of GAAHBSU and we need to support it! Controlling Our Destiny is the theme this year. Find out how we plan to do just that! Please attend and wear your DeKalb buttons and blazers."

ASU Dekalb member State Representative Earnest Williams has invited us to breakfast during GAAHBSU (January 30). Please monitor your email for details. Nelson says "Thanks again, Coach, for donating your meeting space to the Chapter in January, and for inviting us to breakfast at GAAHBSU on Wednesday morning."

 Hearts of Fire!
Our annual winter scholarship fundraiser "Hearts of Fire" is on Saturday-February 2, at 8pm. It's being held at the Community Achievement Center on Flat Shoals in Decatur. Remember to mail your checks/money orders ($25 per ticket) to Treasurer Donald Blount (404-358-2213). A flier is attached to this email. Please distribute to your friends and associates. Arrange to drop off event refreshments with Darryl Frazier (404-819-0649).

Fun, Fun!

Membership: Darryl Frazier won the Member Recruiter drawing, and Thomas Green was the winner of the 50/50 Raffle.
