ASU Shines at Founders Day

Published on 4/1/2011

It was a full day of appreciation and remembrances!

Friday started with the ASU Founder's Day Convocation with speaker Dr. William G. Anderson. Anderson was a founder and first president of the Albany Movement, which spearheaded the Civil Rights Movement. The program was followed by the graveside service at which Mrs. Josephine Holley-Jefferson laid wreaths at the grave of her father, ASU founder Dr. Joseph Winthrop Holley. The Alumni Luncheon immediately followed with ASU Dekalb's Andrea Albritten Snorton as speaker. Snorton, has contributed dresses to Dekalb's prom dress collection and also sponsored a student for our campus visitation trip. Before she spoke, Snorton said she wanted to, "talk about the past and present, but also wanted to make sure alumni keep in mind their role in insuring Albany State's success." During the luncheon, Snorton told a capacity-filled Orene Hall, "Give back and give back consistently." She added, "The role of alumni, as recruitment ambassadors, is to make sure that enrollment continues to grow and to encourage a student or a friend to attend".
